When Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, and others experienced a global outage on Monday, a friend sent me a text saying, “Comms is the first thing to go.” Looking back, only social media was affected, but in reading more on the incident it brought to my attention that many businesses utilize some form of the Facebook platform for business communications. Businesses using the platform were brought to a standstill for the six hours of the outage. The question there is, “Are there too many eggs in one basket?” We talk about redundancy in prepping, what about in communications? Cell phones, email, and video chats were not affected, but they could have been. The next question is, “What would be the effect if all Internet and cell communications went down?"
